Let me start off by saying that I like this album. I''m not disappointed by it all, and I''m listening to it right now and enjoying it. I wanted to give this 4 stars because I''m a huge Skillet fan (I''ve seen them live more than any other band, and I''ve listened to them for well over a decade), but I think if I''m being objective, I have to give it 3, because it''s really just average.

This isn''t Skillet''s fault at all, but the jewel case for the CD seems really cheap. It came in the mail with a crack in the back, and the ring that''s supposed to hold the disc in place, just doesn''t. The disc falls out every time I open it.

Moving on the album itself, some of the tracks, like "Legendary" and "Rise Up" are decent tracks, but they sound so similar to the last 3 albums Skillet has put out, that you might think you accidentally shuffled into one of those previous albums if you aren''t paying attention when listening. They really just sound like rehashes of songs from "Rise" or "Awake," and they don''t necessarily do anything better than the songs on those albums did either, which is sad. Even lyrically, Skillet is starting to get extremely repetitive. We now have "Rise Up," when before we had "Rise." Now we have "Back to Life," when we already had "Back from the Dead." It''s just getting kind of old. I think Skillet''s creativity would be helped by some self-imposed limitations when writing their next album (like not being allowed to use the word "Rise" in any way whatsoever, for example...)

"This is the Kingdom" is a decent track, but the intro and first verse sound like a blatant rip off of "Believer" by Imagine Dragons. Seriously, it''s so bad that I''m almost embarrassed to show that song to anybody because of it. The real standout tracks for me are "Save Me," which gives me strong "Whispers in the Dark" vibes and I love it, "Terrify the Dark" is a great song with a great message, "You Ain''t Ready," "Never Going Back," and "Finish Line" are all awesome songs to rock out to, and "Anchor" is a great pick-me-up with another great message.

Overall I like it, even though it probably sounds like I''m being hard on it. If you liked Skillet''s last 3 albums, you''ll like this, but just be aware that it''s going to sound a bit *too* similar to those at certain points.

I have been a Skillet fan for a while now and especially after seeing them live as they put on an energetic show that is worth the price of admission. So, I was eagerly looking forward to the new album.

With Skillet you pretty much know what to expect, in your face, rock anthem type songs with the heavy crunch of guitars. With Victorious, you get no real surprises here as it is more of what Skillet is known for. In fact, if there is any criticism of the album is that the album doesn’t really stand out from their previous outings. That doesn’t mean it is a bad album as there are some catchy tunes on the album, such as Legendary, Victorious and This is the Kingdom. The album has a good pace with the in your face rock anthems balanced off with a couple good ballads.

To me, Skillet is at their best when Ledger’s voice offsets the rougher growls of Cooper and happily for me, there are several songs that illustrate that on the album. On the softer side there are the good ballad-like songs Terrify the Dark and Anchor.

I would describe this album, both lyrically and sound-wise, as radio-friendly. The lyrics, although well written, are not particularly complex and most songs clock in around the 4 minute or less mark. Although not my favorite Skillet album, it has enough to satisfy me and fans of the band. If you are on the fence about the band after listening to this album, check them out live and you will be convinced.

A lot of people seem to esteem “Comatose” as Skillets best album. I do like that album, and it is very well done. However, I would not necessarily consider it their best work. There are plenty of songs on Comatose that I skip over.

With that said, I personally find, “Victorious” to be a better album than Comatose. I like the variety and energy, and none of the songs on here I would skip over. I may be in the mood for certain songs at certain times, but I feel there is no filler on here. This of course is my opinion.

One thing I have noticed from the last four or five Skillet albums, is that there are people who complain about all of them. How we view this music is in the eye of the beholder. No one’s opinions are right or wrong.

What I like about this album, is that it is mostly produced by Skillet. It showcases what they learned over years, working with different producers. And that they are quite capable of producing stellar albums themselves. This gives them much more freedom. They can do this because they have showed Atlantic Records that they can sell albums, even without an outside producer at the helm.

I''ve been a fan since I heard their debut LP in 1996. This band''s music has changed a lot since the first album, but they kind of settled in a great groove in 2009 with the release ''Awake'' ... when they added Jen Ledger''s sweet sounding voice and drums, which mesh so nicely with John Cooper''s. This band has continually put out one great album after another. For me, each being a little bit better than the former. The track''s here have very catchy hooks and riffs ... adding another awesome rock anthem ''Legendary'' ... which maybe my favorite track by the band ever.

This CD deviates a little from their recognizable tune...but-for me- it doesnt take away from their rock-ability.
I love this CD.
